Many old type Firefox addons lost!

This blog post in German languagecompat1“Houston, we have had a problem” —  AMO Browsing for SeaMonkey and addon converter have become useless —  more or less 😡

For details see Bug 1517828 Firefox add-ons no longer available for SeaMonkey.

This means that lots of add-ons which where compatible with SeaMonkey after conversion no longer can be installed.

We will need the FF-addons without Webextensions successor versions on the new addon repository!

SeaMonkey add-ons will be moved to addons.thunderbird.net

I received an e-mail from “The Thunderbird & Add-ons teams”:

” … Starting on July 12th, SeaMonkey add-ons will be listed on addons.thunderbird.net, which is the new home for Thunderbird and SeaMonkey add-ons. This new site is being run by the Thunderbird Council. If the add-ons also support Firefox or Firefox for Android, they will remain listed on AMO. Otherwise, their listings will be removed, and their URLs will redirect to the new site. Similarly, update URLs will be redirected, so all of your users will continue to receive automatic updates on the new site if you upload new versions to it. Your developer account will also be ported, so you should be able to log in and manage your listing.

If you come across any issues or need any support during this transition, please leave a comment on this Discourse thread.

If you don’t wish to be notified about these add-ons anymore, please disable the listing pages on the new site, and the old one, if needed”

I tested the new site, currently (as expected) still “503 Service Temporarily Unavailable”

May be we will have to adapt SeaMonkey Help, website, wiki, …. All that should be handled via Bugzilla as soon as the new site will be running.

UI completely broken in 2.56a1 Trunk ⚠️️

I used a newly created test profile

So (browser-) UI looks with official en-US SeaMonkey 2.56a1 (NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:59.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/59.0 Build 20180119000058 SourceStamp=ae43fcf7b9ee449f0f0a573d10c93421dbe645bf || ID={92650c4d-4b8e-4d2a-b7eb-24ecf4f6b63a} (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit.

May be developers should give some advice in which area and for which builds user-bugreports currently can be useful? I doubt that testing with current (WIN) trunk can yield any benefit 🤔.

AMO Browsing for SeaMonkey: New Version 0.9.17rc1 with enhancements tested successfully

compat1After repair version 0.9.16 Isaac Schemm now created a new  version 0.9.17 with some enhancements. RC is available for testing on github, release will be available on AMO, soon,

I did several tests with unzipped installer of official en-US SeaMonkey 2.53a1 (NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 Build 20170706013410 (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit and checked various functions, which were broken before. For these tests I used some Add-Ons from compatibility list. If you want to do tests directly from AMO, you will have to select an Other Application like Firefox; from the AMO SeaMonkey Area search will only show add-ons which are compatible with SeaMonkey. The FF-AMO-Area already show the new AMO design.

I did my tests from AMO FF Area.

  • 👍 Suppress”FF-Only” button, tested with BlockSite from Search Results list.
    • ✅ [+ Add To FF] or similar button  will be suppressed in search result list (which shows old AMO design) an replaced by “Convert this add-on here” – links.
    • ✅ On add-on download page [+ Add To FF] button is replaced by Convert Add-on link.
    • ✅ Conversion link in added explication text works fine
  • 👍 Useful Text for add-ons built with WebExtensions, which can’t be used with SeaMonkey and which can’t be converted with Add-On-Converter — tested with LEO Dictionaries 3.0 (and YouTube a MP3 1.0.6)
    • ✅ Adds explication to AMO web page for add-on
      • ✅ check previous versions – link works fine

        Convert Previous Version

        • ✅ Conversion link on previous versions page (replaces [+ Add to Firefox]) works fine
  • 👍 Find SeaMonkey Version of add-on — Tested with Lightning 5.4
    • SeaMonkey version of this add-on exists!– link is available and works fine, finds SM version

Did I forget something? All functions I tested worked fine

@Isaac: Thank you for great work.

For these tests I used some Add-Ons from compatibility list.

  • 👍 Replace “FF-Only” button by [Check if SeaMonkey version is available] — Tested with BlockSite
    • ✅ SM button is available
    • ✅ After search focus returns to FF add-on because no SM version of add-on does exist
    • ✅ Conversion link in added explication text works fine

SeaMonkey Project – calling for volunteers

Blogpost in englischer SpracheThe SeaMonkey project is entirely driven by volunteers, and we will need some  more of them, as FRG (Frank-Rainer Grahl)  told on mozillazine.

With some HTML and XHTML knowledge (and some endurance, of course)  for example you can do substantial contribution to SeaMonkey Help. Also required: Translation to other languages than English for Help-chapters, Add-Ons, Wiki-pages

Don’t be shy, leave a comment how we can reach you and where you see your skills for contribution.

AMO Browsing for SeaMonkey — Add-On information updated on AMO

This blog post in German languageSome of you might have observed that the add-on-page on AMO showed a message “not available for SeaMonkey 2.51” for a while. Actually the add-on installs and works fine, so I updated information, the add-on works fine also for latest Trunk version SeaMonkey 2.51a1.

If you observe a problem please use the support link on the add-on page.
