SeaMonkey 2.53.1 Beta 1

Has been released.

I can recommend that version, I have been using 2.53 for a long time without bigger problems. But you should keep in mind that there will be no way back for your existing User Profile after you will have used it with 2.53.1.

Additionally to the official Release Notes here you find some more information concerning changes with SeaMonkey 2.53.1

You need a Bugzilla-Account for the queries here in the blogpost. All queries without any liability, because (not only) correct use of TARGET MILESTONE is controversial.

SeaMonkey E-Mail CRASHes

Yesterday morning my

installation of unofficial (by wg9s) De SeaMonkey 2.53.2 (NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 Build 20191230130008 {Milestone=60.3.2 | SourceStamp=f3720549528fd4e297a4b9f285acd2fe1d0a6938} (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit

lost ability to open email client. day be fore everything worked fine, next morning always when try to launch email client SM becomes unresponsible, ‘CRASH after few minutes.

I gambled around a little, nothing helps.

I’m afraid I will nave to Create a new profile and import old contents step by step.

Or do you know a trick I should try to revive mail in my existing profile?

P.S.:

Bad thing I had to learn: I did Backups of my profile with 7z. But if I replace the profile in the rooming folder, the profile will not work. SM launches, but the complete Folder contents is dead, will not be recognized. May because I should have additionally added the Profile components from <C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles>? I don’t think so, I additionally had done an unzipped copy of my Profile, that works (except mail …), I have access to bookmarks, passwords and so on.

Unofficial SeaMonkey 2.53.2 beta 1 pre by user wg9s

This blog post in German language User wg9s offers several current SeaMonkey builds from latest source for WINDOWS, MAC and Linux.

SeaMonkey 2.53.2 is the new successor of 2.53.1, German version works fine for me on WIN, English Version and other OS not (yet) Tested by me.

Reports on Expereience are welcome, but please be aware that you use those builds on your own risk. I recommend to create a backup of your user profile before you start testing those builds.

PDF Viewer PDF.JS for SeaMonkey 2.53.1

PDF Viewer for SeaMonkey 2.1.288 does not work correctly with SeaMonkey 2.53 and 2.53.1 (By WG9S): endless idling in Browser-TAB until you click Stop Loading Icon, also problems when open PDF attachment from Mail.

There is a first experimental fixed version (by FRG) here, you can use it for tests on your own risk. Loading PDFs in browser window now works fine, loading PDF attachment from email still needs a refresh (browser tab contents) before PDF becomes shown.

Add-on “Go Parent Folder” stopped working

As already mentioned in Unofficial SeaMonkey 2.53 by user wg9s and Test Results for Add-Ons from ca-archive, “Go Parent Folder” (and also “Show Parent Folder”) don’t work any longer with latest 2.53 by user wg9s

  • “Go Parent Folder” context menu appearing after rightclick on a bookmarks entry does no longer show  the Item “Go Parent Folder”, Problem is visible in Bookmarks Manager and in Sidebar Bookmarks Panel.
  • “Show Parent Folder”: Table column can no longer be added in Bookmars Manager.

Go Parent Folder and Show Parent Folder both worked in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 SeaMonkey/2.53a1 Build 20170731233559. That was a version with the little column selector in the most right table heading in Bookmarks Manager.

The first version still available on my PC where both addons do no longer work is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 SeaMonkey/2.53 Build 20180902143701. And in this version also the little column selector in the most right table heading has gone. That proves nothing, but might indicate the reason why the addons do no lnger work.
